Dogs

Created by Shirow Miwa and first published in 2001, Dogs is an action-packed manga, with one full volume in its collection; after a four year hiatus, work has been resumed on producing new chapters of the second volume, titled Bullets and Carnage, which are being released in the Japanese magazine, Ultra Jump.

A one shot spinoff, Dogs: Hardcore Twins was also published; some of the characters seen in the first volume of Dogs make appearances in Hardcore Twins, but the focus of the story is on a different set of protagonists: this time, two unusual gun-slinging twin girls. The short story was posted in an anthology compilation, Ultrajump Megamix, which offered works by other manga artists as well.

Another short story set in the Dogs world has been made; it revolves around a character that appeared in one of the chapters of the Dogs volume. However, this story has yet to be translated and is not available online, but a third short story, one that briefly details Badou's past, can be downloaded and read.

Scanslations of Dogs can be found at Manga Translation.

Story

Dogs is a story of four individuals residing in a dystopia, some of whom are searching for the gateway to a mysterious underground world. Genetic experimentation is frequently touched upon, as a number of characters have been the subjects of such manipulation.

The manga's tone, for the most part, is rather bleak and often disturbing; gratuitous violence is prevalent, and occasional, nudity is featured. However, Dogs is not without some lighthearted humor, often provided by one of the protagonists, Badou.
